Fundraising Strategy

Approximately 10% of The Schooba Academy’s annual revenue will be generated through Earned Income, i.e. a combination of fees, referrals, retail sales, advertising, and related activities.  Mentors will be asked to pay a minimal fee for the training.  Likewise, students will be asked to raise a minimal fee for the training.  The Schooba Academy will be granted a commission on referrals for equipment and other scuba diving related activities that its participants engage in.

The remainder of our funding will be generated through the following activities:

  • Government/Public Funding: The Schooba Academy will pursue the obtainment of government funding.
  • Private Giving:

o    Institutional Philanthropy from Foundations: The Schooba Academy will pursue the obtainment of grants from relevant foundations.

o    Institutional Philanthropy from Corporations and Small Businesses: In exchange for financial support, The Schooba Academy will offer an individualized sponsorship agreement aimed to ensure the mutual benefit and happiness of both parties.  Some of the provisions for sponsorship are exclusive sponsorship in their industry or market, the option to decorate the chosen sponsorship area with suitable company materials, positive PR in all printed materials and special programming, and the opportunity to participate in an educational and enjoyable project of social value.

o    In-Kind Donations and/or Partnerships: The Schooba Academy will pursue in-kind donations and/or partnerships with retailers and/or organizations that offer materials, supplies, and/or services that we will need.  Some possible retailers/organizations are dive shops, pools, and schools, among others.  The Schooba Academy will offer an individualized partnership agreement aimed to ensure mutual benefit and happiness.  Some of the provisions for a partnership are exclusivity in their industry or market, the option to decorate the chosen partnership area with suitable company materials, positive PR in all printed materials and special programming, and the opportunity to participate in an educational and enjoyable project of social value.

o    Individual Gifts: The Schooba Academy will solicit donations from individuals.  This can happen in an unstructured setting, e.g. asking a mentor if he would like to donate to The Schooba Academy after his course; or, this can happen in a structured setting, e.g. when Schooba Academy Alumni dress up in SCUBA gear and raise awareness in a high traffic environment.

  • Fundraising Events: These can include promotional offerings of introductory Discover Scuba Diving courses, community benefits with public speakers, and school based functions, i.e. bake sales, etc., among others.

    Looks good. Always a good idea to diversify income, as to not put all your eggs in one basket so to speak. Looks like you are well on your way to non-profit nirvana. Glad to see you are making progress.
